Speaker Profiles (Interfaith and Multicultural Flavours of Iftar Dinner)

Following is a line up of distinguished speakers and scholars chosen to represent different faiths and cultures at the Interfaith and Multicultural Flavours of Iftar Dinner:

This dinner event will be held at the Toyota Auditorium in the Cambridge Centre for the Arts in Cambridge on Saturday, April 8, 2023 @ 6:00 pm.

 Jivasu – Hindu Perspective on Fasting

 Jivasu MD is an Indian physician and founder of the Soma teachings. Soma is the process of attaining complete health and self-realization. He served in the remote villages of the Indian Himalayas for 11 years. Later he studied acupuncture in Sri Lanka and Canada and mind-body medicine at Harvard University. He taught acupuncture, mind-body medicine, Meditation, and various Yogas worldwide. Author of numerous books.

   

Bob Chodos – Jewish Perspective on Fasting

Bob Chodos is an active member and lay leader at Temple Shalom, Waterloo Region's Reform Jewish congregation. He was a member of Interfaith Grand River for 17 years and has given many presentations on Jewish topics to university classes and other audiences. He has represented Judaism at the World Religions Conference in Waterloo and is actively advocates for interfaith initiatives.

 

   

Mushure Raynor – Christian Perspective on Fasting

Mushure Raynor is a life-long person of faith.  A child born of Jamaican Canadian parentage, he was raised in both the Evangelical, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Churches.  As an adult he sought deeper answers to unseen truths and converted to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Currently serves on the High Council of the Kitchener Stake of the Church as liaison for single adults. 

   

Gursev Singh – Sikh Perspective on Fasting

Gursev graduated from University of Waterloo, completed his B.Ed. from Queen’s University and M.Ed. in Adult Education a Global Change. Spirituality is one of his foremost passions. He is a musician and loves singing hymns from the holy Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib ji. He shares his singing and experiences at Sikh retreats, conferences, and congregations across North America. Currently Gursev teaches math, business computers, career studies and world religions.

   

Imam Fatir Mahmood Ahmad – Islamic Perspective on Fasting

Imam Fatir Mahmood Ahmad is the Imam of the Bai’tul Kareem Mosque in Cambridge and a missionary for the Waterloo Region. A graduate from Jamia Ahmadiyya, an Islamic University in Canada after completing a 7-year rigorous program of study. Later his received missionary training in Africa, UK, and Pakistan. He grew up Vancouver B.C. He has studied Comparative Religions and Islamic Jurisprudence and specializes in the training of youth.

Musleh Shanboor – Representing Middle East and Arabia

Musleh Shanboor was born and raised in Palestine. Completed his theology studies from Ahmadiyya Islamic Institute, Canada in 2017. Serves as an Arabic teacher at Ahmadiyya Islamic Institute. Also serves as a Missionary in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Canada. Incharge of the Arabic Desk of the community at the head quarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada.

 

   

Ibrahim Fazil Quansah – Representing Africa

Ibrahim hails originally from Ghana, Africa. His grandfather accepted Islam. He moved to USA in 2017. Currently studying in 4th year to become a missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at at the Ahmadiyya Islamic Institute located in Toronto, Canada. He plans to specialize in theology.

 

   

Amar Cerimovic – Representing Europe and Bosnia

Amar was born in raised in New York in a Bosnian community. His parents accepted Islam, who were refugees of the Bosnian war to USA. Amar lives in USA in a large Bosnian Muslim neighborhood. Currently studying theology at the Ahmadiyya Islamic Institute in Toronto to become the first missionary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat from Bosnia.

   

Awais Ahmad – Representing Indonesia – Malaysia

Awais Ahmad was born in Serang, Indonesia. Fluent in Bahasa Indonesian language. His grandparents accepted Islam in the 1940s. Currently studying theology and comparative religions at the Ahmadiyya Islamic Institute in Toronto in his 4th year. His family still live in Indonesia.

   

Adam Abid-Alexander – Representing North America

Adam Abid-Alexander has been serving as a Local Missionary for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Vaughan. He accepted Islam 15 years ago. He advocates interfaith dialogue and continues to serve the wider community of Toronto through Humanity First a non profit organization. He enjoys learning about the individual spiritual journeys of others as well as their accepted prayers.

 

Keynote Speaker - Philosophy of Fasting


 

 

Imam Aizaz Khan – Keynote Speaker

Imam of Baitul Islam Mosque, one of the largest mosques in North America located in Vaughan Toronto. Aizaz is a Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at. He has served the community in Benin (West Africa), Cayman Islands and at MTA International, the community's 24/7 Islamic TV channel that serves an international audience. He is currently serving at the Baitul Islam Mosque in Vaughan, Ontario. He lives in Woodbridge with his wife and two year old son.
