Greetings from the President
Professor David Johnston, University
of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
Message to
the Delegates of the 27th World Religions Conference
On behalf of the University of Waterloo I would like to welcome you
to the 27th World Religions Conference. It is our pleasure to extend an
invitation to the delegates and visitors and we hope that you will take
the opportunity to get to know this city, and this university, a little
better while you are meeting here in Waterloo.
I would like to thank the Ahmadiyya Muslim Students’ Association for
their work in organizing this annual conference, which provides an
opportunity for people of diverse faith traditions, philosophies and
cultural backgrounds to examine their differences and similarities;
comparing notes and sharing their experiences and perspectives. That
discussion is a vital part of education, moving us from knowledge to
wisdom.
The efforts of our students to bring you all together speak to their
belief that the religions of the world can make a valuable contribution to
the problems that face our society. That’s what makes the theme of this
year’s conference, “How Religion Can Protect the Environment,” such an
exciting topic. Despite our differences, the environment that surrounds us
is one thing that that we all share in common. Only together can we work
to find solutions to environmental issues.
Thank you for your participation and enjoy the conference.
President David Johnston
